Brock Lesnar and Junior dos Santos - TUF 13

TUF 13 coaches Brock Lesnar and Junior dos Santos

The Ultimate Fighting Championship on Tuesday finally made UFC 131: Lesnar vs. dos Santos official for Vancouver on June 11. The event will take place at Rogers Arena; the same venue UFC 115 took place at, although it went by the moniker GM Palace at the time.

“The Ultimate Fighter Season 13” coaches Brock Lesnar and Junior dos Santos will square off in the evening’s main event. Lesnar, having lost the UFC heavyweight championship to Cain Velasquez in October, sees the fight as the fastest route back into title contention. For dos Santos, he declined to wait for an injured Velasquez to return from injury to get a title shot. The Brazilian instead saw the opportunity to continue building up his name recognition with fans by coaching on TUF 13 and fighting Lesnar first.

There will be no title fights on the UFC 131 fight card, but there are several notable showdowns. The UFC made eight bouts official in verifying the event itself, including top middleweights Demian Maia and Mark Munoz throwing down, former lightweight contender Kenny Florian making his featherweight debut against Diego Nunes, and a burgeoning grudge match between TUF 6 winner Mac Danzig and the outspoken Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone.
