Round 1: And we’re underway for the Lightweight Championship of the world.  Low kick by Edgar, and a ton of movement open the round.  Left jab by Maynard back Edgar up.  Edgar moving left to right with ease, and lands a snapping leg kick again.  Straight right by Maynard stops Edgar for a moment.  Another straight right by Maynard sends Edgar barreling backwards and Maynard bum rushes him with brutal shots.  Edgar is in deep trouble!  He keeps retreating and Maynard follows with more vicious shots! Somehow Frankie regains his composure and the fighters are back to standing.  Frankie eats another shot and drops levels for a takedown with no success.  Edgar is bleeding from the nose and mouth now.  A brutal right hook, followed by a left hook floor Edgar again and Maynard is laying a beating on the champ! I have no clue how Frankie Edgar is still in this fight.  Frankie stands up and is still wobbly.  He has no legs. He has no clue where he is.  He is trying to clinch but Maynard is laying the pressure on thick! What a fight! Left hook/left jab by Edgar connects to Maynard’s chin! Wow! Edgar flurries as the round ends and the crowd goes nuts.  10-8 Maynard

Round 2: Straight right by Maynard opens the 2nd round.  Edgar looks composed though and is moving laterally quite nicely.  Maynard is red under his right eye.  A nice right hook by Edgar clips Maynard on the jaw and they back away.  A left uppercut by Maynard connects as they flurry.  Edgar counters with a straight right that gets the crowd’s attention.  Edgar is being much more active this round, as he peppers jabs and moves side to side.  A few solid jabs by Edgar send Maynard stumbling as the crowd chants, “Frankie! Frankie! Frankie!”  Maynard rushes in and Edgar catches him with a body lock, picks him up over his head and slams him to the ground with authority!  They scramble back to their feet and exchange a few shots.  A left hook by Maynard and a counter right hook by Edgar that wobbles Gray.  Gray is now officially bleeding from that left eye.  Edgar with back-to-back straight rights as the round ends. What a start. 10-9 Edgar

Round 3: Maynard opens by stalking Edgar down, Edgar slows that with a body/head combo that connected nicely.  Edgar is now moving in and out again with tons of speed and he seems to be confusing Maynard as he bothers him with jabs and low kicks.  Left hook/straight right by Frankie and Maynard is slowing down, he’s not throwing anymore combos or making anything happen.  Gray shoots but Edgar easily shrugs it off and they are back to standing.  Edgar slips and Maynard tries to capitalize with a takedown, but Edgar is too quick and he defends effectively.   Right hook to the body by Maynard followed by a right hook that clips Edgar on the chin and he backs up.  Straight right by Maynard has Edgar bloodied again.  Edgar fires back with a right hook that connects to Maynard’s chin.  Maynard shoots and earns a brief double-leg takedown, but Edgar stands right back up.  Maynard still with the clinch, manages to take Edgar down once more, as the round ends.  Tough round to score, as the end was all Maynard. 10-9 Edgar.

Round 4: Edgar opens the round with a straight right that he parlays into a clinch and subsequent guillotine attempt.  Maynard escapes the guillotine and pushes Edgar away.  Edgar rushes in and scores a nice takedown and slams Maynard to the canvas.  Maynard easily stands up, however, and they are back to their feet.  Edgar with a nice looping right hook as Maynard is pinned against the cage.  Edgar with more movement as he confuses Maynard.  Edgar shoots but it is easily stuffed by Gray.  The fighters come together and Maynard eats a thudding knee from Edgar’s clinch.  Edgar has Maynard pinned against the cage now, and is landing shots to Maynard’s skull.  The fighters separate and swing wildly, but nothing significant is landed.  Frankie comes in with a 4 punch combo and backs out accordingly.   The round ends. 10-9 Edgar.

Round 5: This is it folks, the final round. The crowd chants, “Frankie! Frankie! Frankie!”  Maynard needs to win this round to have a chance.  A right/left hook combo by Maynard stuns Edgar and he retreats.  Maynard shoots and Frankie defends.  Edgar lands a solid knee from the clinch and the fighters separate.  Edgar paws with the jab to keep Maynard at bay.  Left jab/hook combo by Edgar and Maynard shoots, but Edgar sprawls wonderfully.   Maynard shoots and Edgar sprawls again, and it seems obvious what Maynard wants to do.  A right hook by Edgar stuns Maynard, and Maynard gets mad and throws a combo of his own that lands.  30 seconds left and the crowd starts to rumble.  Maynard shoots once again but Edgar sprawls and the round is coming to an end.  The fighters flurry as the horn sounds! 10-9 Edgar
