Round 1: A straight left by McKee opens the action. Volkmann storms with a flurry, but nothing significant.  An inside leg kick by Volkmann snaps McKee’s leg.  Uppercut by McKee grazes Volkmann’s forehead and gets a reaction from the crowd.  The first shot from McKee is stuffed by Volkmann, and so is a second, and both fighters now clinch against the cage.  Volkmann shoots a double-leg and scores the takedown.  Given McKee’s wrestling background, this is coming as a bit of a shock.  McKee sweeps and is able to stand back to the feet, and clinches Volkmann, working body/body/head combos and staying active.  Volkmann turns McKee into the cage and is working for a single leg, but to no avail, they separate.  Thudding inside leg kick by McKee.  Very hard round to score, 10-9 McKee.

Round 2: Leaping knee from McKee connects to Volkmann’s ribs.  A brief flurry with McKee landing a crisp left hook that hits Volkmann on the side of the head.  McKee shoots but is stuffed by Volkmann, and Volkmann is looking to take his back.  Volkmann transfers from side-control to the back and is now looking to sink in a rear naked choke.  McKee is trying to defend using hand control and trying to stay active, but Volkmann has both hooks and is controlling beautifully.  Two minutes left in the round and Volkmann is staying very composed, looking for the submission.  With his chin tucked, McKee is doing a great job at staving off this choke as Volkmann manuevers for an opening.  McKee throws a double hammerfist while having his back taken, a la Sakuraba, and the crowd cheers.  McKee turns into Volkmann and is in his guard as the round ends. 10-9 Volkmann.

Round 3: Slow start to round 3, and the crowd boos.  One outside leg kick after 90 seconds.  Volkmann shoots and eats a left hook for his troubles.  Straight left by McKee snaps Volkmann’s head back, and he follows with a lead leg kick.  Leg kick by Volkmann is countered by a McKee straight left, and now McKee seems to be finding his rhythm.  McKee rushes in with a flurry and lands a right hook.  McKee follows the flurry with a successful double-leg takedown and now has Volkmann pressed against the cage, as Volkmann tries to stand up.  McKee is trying to turn into Volkmann and slip his hips out from under him, but nothing is working, the round ends and the limited crowd is not happy. 10-9 McKee

Jacob Volkmann def. Antonio McKee by Split Decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-29), R3
