Mauricio “Shogun” Rua walked away from the Octagon with the light heavyweight championship on his shoulder and a hefty check in his pocket.

Rua was awarded a $65,000 “Knockout of the Night” bonus after he knocked out Lyoto Machida to win the light heavyweight crown in the UFC 113 “Machida vs. Shogun 2” main event on Saturday at the Bell Centre in Montreal. The victory, which came 3:35 into round one, avenged Rua’s controversial loss to the previously undefeated Machida seven months ago.

Rua landed a right hand to the temple, which dropped Machida and set up the finish. The 28-year-old Brazilian quickly moved to full mount and put away the champion with a savage attack from the top.

Meanwhile, surging middleweight contender Alan Belcher pocketed a $65,000 bonus for “Submission of the Night” after he coaxed a tapout from former title challenger Patrick Cote 3:25 into the second round. Belcher, a Duke Roufus protégé, has rattled off back-to-back wins since his split decision loss to Yoshihiro Akiyama at UFC 100.

Finally, Jeremy Stephens and Sam Stout banked matching $65,000 bonuses for “Fight of the Night” in wake of their action-packed three-round encounter. Stephens knocked down Stout in the first round and won a split decision from the Canadian -- 30-27, 29-28 and 28-29.
