Trio of Canadian Promotions Merge, Form Aggression Fighting Championships

A new player has emerged on the Canadian mixed martial arts scene.

Canadian promotions Aggression MMA, Armageddon Fighting Championships and Ax Combat jointly announced Wednesday that the three regional shows have joined forces to create a single organization called Aggression Fighting Championships.

The new promotion plans to hold between nine and 11 live events per year, taking place in Edmonton and Calgary, Alberta, as well as Victoria, British Columbia. Officials also noted that expansion is planned for the second half of 2012.

The organization has apparently adopted both the acronym and lineage of Armageddon FC, as promotion officials revealed that AFC 8, 9 and 10 will be held under the new banner on April 14, June 8 and June 15, respectively. More details on the merger will be revealed in the coming weeks.

“This is by far the largest deal in Canadian MMA history, and I’m ecstatic to be a part of it,” said Armageddon co-founder Darren Owen in an official release. “It just makes sense to standardize matchmaking, contracts, logos, and production. Contracted fighters now have the opportunity to fight more frequently than they did before, which we are confident they will be happy about. With Armageddon’s current TV deal, the AFC will readily be available in 70 million homes, and now with increased content and expansion, the sky is the limit for AFC opportunities.”
