Tommy Aaron Looks to Remain Undefeated at Friday’s RFA 42

While his first two professional MMA fights haven’t quite gone the way he’d envisioned, featherweight prospect Tommy “Spaniard” Aaron has managed to win both, and continue the success he had built in the amateur ranks.

Against Jacob Rosales at RFA 33 last year, Aaron was able to pick up a unanimous decision victory, and then followed that up with a first-round TKO of Luke Faultersack at RFA 38 in June.

“My debut (against Rosales) I was a little disappointed in my performance,” Aaron said to MMAWeekly.com. “I know I’m a much better fight than how I performed. At the same time, I had a really fun fight and had a great time out there.

“The fight with Luke was short, so my thirst for the feeling of the fight really wasn’t quenched. But I feel like I performed well. I got the job done.”

For Aaron, making the jump to the pro ranks has only made it easier for him to implement more of his game.

“In amateurs, it’s three-minute rounds, and in pros it’s five-minute rounds,” he said. “I prefer the five-minute rounds because I have good cardio. I felt very rushed in amateurs, but now in pros I have time to get moving and reacting the right way.”

Another thing that has helped Aaron do so well early in his career is the immense amount of fan support he receives.

“I try to do as much good for people as I can,” said Aaron. “I get a lot of love for it. I’m always there for people, and in return they’re always there for me. It’s a pretty cool thing that we’ve built here in the South Bay. I’m fortunate to have people behind me.”

Aaron (2-0) will look to carry his momentum into his third RFA bout on Friday in Visalia, Calif., when he takes on Adin Duenas (4-1) in a main card 145-pound fight on AXS TV.

“I think Adin is obviously a tough guy,” Aaron said. “He’s had tough opponents. He’s a really good wrester. But I don’t think he’s really faced anybody with the mental power and the toughness and pressure I bring.

“He seems like a really well-spoken, humble guy, and I’m looking forward to sharing the cage with him.”

As someone who likes to handle one thing at a time, Aaron is not looking beyond Aug. 19 too much, but will step up to any challenge that comes his way.

“I don’t like to look too far ahead. I like to focus on the task at hand, get through that and then move on to the next,” said Aaron. “I feel like this is a good match-up for me with Aiden. He looks like he comes to fight, and I come to fight too, so it’s going to be a really exciting match.”
