A heavyweight bout between Todd Duffee and Nick Gaston has been bumped from this weekend’s Dream 17 fight card in Tokyo.
Duffee reportedly suffered an undisclosed injury that forced him out of the fight. Dream officials then decided to pull the fight altogether, according to a report by ESPN.com. MMAWeekly.com later confirmed the report with Duffee’s camp, although they did not disclose the nature of the injury.
Duffee (6-2) was once considered one of the most promising prospects in the UFC, reeling off six consecutive victories before Mike Russow knocked him out in a stunning third round come-from-behind win in May 2010.
He was released by the UFC following the loss with UFC boss Dana White saying that he didn’t like Duffee’s attitude and that it seemed like he was ambivalent about fighting for the UFC.
Duffee fought at Drem’s year-end event, Dynamite!! 2010, where he was knocked out by Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem in 19 seconds. He hasn’t fought since.
Gaton (5-1) is a former King of the Cage heavyweight championship contender. He lost his title bid against Tyler East in late June.
