Today's UFC 173 ticket pre-sale postponed pending new main event

With the UFC 173 main event still to be determined, the planned presale of tickets today has been postponed.

Tickets were scheduled to go on sale today to UFC Fight Club members, followed by a Thursday on sale for e-newsletter subscribers, and a Friday sale to the general public. But on Tuesday, the promotion announced the presale for Fight Club members had been scrapped until a new main event is announced.

On Monday, the promotion announced that the headliner between middleweight champion Chris Weidman (11-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC) and Lyoto Machida (21-4 MMA, 13-4 UFC) had been moved to UFC 175 in July thanks to a knee injury for Weidman, who will require minor surgery. The promotion is working to secure a new main event for the Memorial Day weekend card and expects to announce it in the coming days.

UFC 173 is set for May 24 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The main card will air on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

The co-headliner before Weidman-Machida was moved was a heavyweight bout between former champion Junior dos Santos (16-3 MMA, 10-2 UFC) and contender Stipe Miocic (11-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC). Additionally, the pay-per-view lineup includes lightweights Tony Ferguson (14-3 MMA, 4-1 UFC) vs. Katsunori Kikuno (22-5-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) and bantamweights T.J. Dillashaw (9-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) vs. Takeya Mizugaki (19-7-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC). Lightweights Jamie Varner (21-9-1 MMA, 3-4 UFC) and James Krause (20-5 MMA, 1-1 UFC) are scheduled to open the main card.

It’s possible that dos Santos-Miocic could become the main event if the promotion is unable to secure another fight worthy of headlining.

The UFC said it will announce new on-sale dates for the event once the new main event is announced.
