After a knockout win in his Legacy Fighting Championship debut earlier this fall, Tim Means will return next month to headline Legacy FC 27.
Means (19-5-1) will top the card against Aretenas Young (10-6) in a welterweight bout at Legacy FC 27, Legacy FC President Mick Maynard on Monday confirmed to MMAjunkie. Former UFC and Strikeforce heavyweight title challenger Paul Buentello (33-15) had been penciled in against Isaac Villanueva (7-7), but that fight appears to be on hold for the time being.
Legacy FC 27 takes place Jan. 31 at Houston’s Arena Theatre. The main card airs on AXS TV.
Means in September stopped former UFC fighter Pete Spratt with a first-round knockout at Legacy FC 23. That got him back on track after a two-fight skid of decision losses to Jorge Masvidal and Danny Catillo. Those two fights got him his release from the UFC, where he had started 2-0 to build his unbeaten streak to 11 fights.
Young is coming off a decision win over Jonathan Harris at Legacy FC 25 a little more than two weeks ago. Since a two-fight winning streak in 2011, he’s been up and down. Against Means, he’ll be looking for another streak and to move to 4-2 under the Legacy FC banner.
In addition to the headliner, Olympic gold medal-winning wrestler Henry Cejudo (5-0) will look to extend the perfect start to his MMA career. He’ll fight in the co-main event, though an opponent has yet to be tapped. In October, Cejudo had to go past the first round for the first time, but he took home a unanimous decision against Ryan Hollis. The first four fights of his pro career were first-round stoppages, all courtesy of his hands.
The six-fight main card on AXS TV also will include Carlos Martinez (3-0) vs. Charlie Ontiveros (3-1), Larry Crowe (6-3) vs. Evan Thompson (3-0), Alex Black (5-3) vs. Charles Cheeks (6-2) and Steven Rodriguez (2-1) vs. Kamaru Usman (1-1).
The latest Legacy FC 27 card now includes:
MAIN CARD (AXS TV, 10 p.m. ET)
PRELIMINARY CARD (Untelevised)
