Just after signing a contract extension with the UFC, Thomas Almeida has his next assignment.
Almeida (20-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) will get a bout in his home city in two months when he meets Anthony Birchak (12-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) in a bantamweight bout at UFC Fight Night 77. UFC officials announced the new booking tonight.
UFC Fight Night 77 takes place Nov. 7 at Ibirapuera Gymnasium in Sao Paulo. The event is expected to air on Fox Sports 1 following early preliminary bouts on UFC Fight Pass.
Almeida stayed unbeaten earlier this summer at UFC 189 by knocking out Brad Pickett with a flying knee in the second round. That gave the 24-year-old Brazilian (he was 23 at the time) three performance bonuses in three UFC fights.
After a loss to Ian Entwistle in his promotional debut this past December, Birchak picked up his first UFC victory in June when he knocked out Joe Soto 97 seconds into their fight in New Orleans. That gave him six wins his his past seven fights.
