The Speed Bag: Stars aligned for Bisping vs. Jacare at UFC 206 – but it's not going to happen, is it?

Sometimes an injury wrecks an exciting fight but leaves the door open to the possibility of something even better.

With Luke Rockhold (15-3 MMA, 5-2 UFC) injured and out of his Nov. 26 UFC Fight Night 101 bout with Ronaldo Souza (23-4 MMA, 6-1 UFC) and middleweight champ Michael Bisping (30-7 MMA, 20-7 UFC) previously making noise about wanting a fight at UFC 206, could fight fans see a title fight between the champ and “Jacare?”

Well, probably not. But it would seem to make a lot of sense – and likely a lot of money.

Bisping recently “formally, officially” called out Nick Diaz for UFC 206, which takes place Dec. 10 at Air Canada Centre in Toronto with a main card on pay-per-view. The call out came after his previous target of a date with former welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre didn’t come together.

Souza’s manager, Gilberto Faria, told MMAjunkie a fight with Bisping was “the only fight that makes sense,” when Rockhold’s injury knocked him from this month’s event.

So, with the stars seemingly aligned for a showdown between Bisping, ranked No. 1 in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA middleweight rankings, and No. 5 ranked Souza at UFC 206, will the fight actually happen?

That’s the subject of this week’s edition of “The Speed Bag.” Check out the full video above.
