'That's impending doom': UFC fighters react to IV rehydration ban

“I’ve used IVs in the past.” This was the prevailing response when MMAjunkie spoke to UFC fighters about the new ban on the use of IVs to rehydrate after cutting weight.

The ban on IV rehydration is a part of the UFC’s new partnership with the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) which went into effect on July 1. This weekend’s UFC 189 and TUF 21 Finale events are the first to happen under the UFC banner since the regulations kicked in, meaning fighters are having to fully deal with the impact on their fight preparation for the first time.

Some, like Jorge Masvidal, were more upset than others. Masvidal called the IV ban “impending doom” while other reactions ranged from annoyance to happiness that fighters may fight closer to their “natural” weight class.

Check out the video above for reactions from several UFC fighters.
