Team Australia blog: Chris Indich on 'TUF Nations,' episode No. 2

TUF Nations: Team Canada v Team Australia Media Day PortraitsSo damn, that sucked. Two losses in a row for Team Australia. It’s definitely not the way we wanted to start as a team, and from hearing and seeing the Canadian teams reviews and thoughts of us for the first times, they were already writing us off from the start. And you could definitely feel their cockiness vibe growing around the house, almost as if to say everything they were thinking was true.

It was a big call for Team Canada to say it was going to be an ass whooping for the Elias Theodorou and Zein Saliba fight. I mean, the fight itself was a technical fight, one of those fights that’s a grueling battle and not one for the untrained eye to appreciate. Maybe they saw it like maple syrup on a pancake with a side of bacon, Canadian style, but it seemed to me like Elias played it safe and just went for the win. He didn’t use any of those 12-0 kickboxing skills that he mentioned. Maybe that was just a piece of gamesmanship on his part. If it was, well-played sir. And not too sure why Elias’ dating life got a plug, but good for him.

With that gamesmanship that Nordine Taleb felt so strongly about that he had to call a meeting – ha, ha. I think he just didn’t get the laid-back Aussie way and us just being good blokes and having a chat. I mean, we are in a house that is based around fighting. What else are we meant to talk about in this feeling out period with the tension still in the house?

It’s kind of funny the Canadian team talking about dishes and tidying up. They just did it without a word. They didn’t even approach us with this issue at this point. It was good of them to do it. I’m actually looking forward to the unfolding of the kitchen situation. I hope we get to see who did what and who didn’t do what they said they were doing.

For me with the kitchen, I felt like I cooked, cleaned and put away what I used as I have somewhat of a modified diet with what I eat – fish and eggs for protein and the normal fruit and vegetables stuff, and I try to steer clear of dairy but do like yogurt for the good gut bacteria. So most of the time, I cooked for myself as most of the guys were putting steaks on the BBQ and stuff like that, which just isn’t my thing.

Training was going awesome. It was great to have such great coaches and training partners to train with everyday. It was just a fact that we are all going to get better in this environment. I really enjoyed training with coach Israel “Izzy” Sanchez. He is an amazing wrestling coach. Not only that, he just has that knack of knowing when to give you that rev-up to get some more out of you.

So with Zein’s loss, it meant the Canadians retained the fight pick again, and a welterweight fight was up. I had amped myself up so much in telling myself I was going to be fighting first that I really didn’t think it was me that was going to be picked. But either way, I was ready to go, ready to fight. Without knowing any background on Chad Laprise, he was the matchup I thought would be good for me with me being slightly taller and having a bit more size. I felt with my well-rounded skills I could get the job done, even though I had been labeled as a grappler – which is not necessarily a bad thing. Not only that, but I felt Chad was eyeballing me in the house around the way. Maybe he knew something I didn’t.

My first glimpse of the fight next week looks great – that head kick looks sick. Next episode can’t come soon enough.
