Team Australia blog: Chris Indich on 'TUF Nations,' episode No. 10

TUF Nations: Team Canada v Team Australia Media Day PortraitsBeing that this episode was a Canada vs. Canada fight, it was pretty much all based around Team Canada, which was pretty interesting from my perspective.

Everyone seemed happy with the semifinal matchups chosen by Dana White, and Team Canada knew some members would eventually have to fight each other, which is exactly what happened with Kajan Johnson and Chad Laprise.

I didn’t know about a lot of what went on with Team Canada behind the scenes until viewing the episode.

Seeing Team Canada head coach Patrick Cote say he was going to be neutral, then clearly supporting Chad was kind of odd in his part. He said he would be neutral, and then he was not. It was the same with Fabio Holanda. He was meant to be cornering Kajan, but yet he was clearly not really that into the job.

You could see the lack of support for Kajan. Chad had like three guys in his corner and another guy that was kind of helping him too. His coaches were very vocal during the fight and you had Kajan’s cornerman – who was just a singular – didn’t even really call out anything.

Watching the fight again, it was different than I remember. The atmosphere at the time got so cold in there. It felt like the Canadian team had backed Chad and left Kajan out in the cold. You can see that in the episode. You could feel that in the atmosphere during the show.

During the whole fight we were just spectators because with the two Canadians fighting, it was mostly about their team. We were just sitting there watching, but during the fight a few guys felt like Kajan was in there on his own.

It’s hard because Kajan made it difficult for people to really like him in the house, but even then no one should have felt like the world was against him. It showed afterward that he actually did feel like everyone was against him.

It was a good technical fight, and in the second round Chad threw the overhand right and got the knockout. A few of us were trying to give Kajan support during the fight, but post-fight we just sat back and tried to keep neutral.

I’d feel pretty rough if my teammates who were there to support and help me just pulled the rug out from under my feet. Especially when you’re already in the house, isolated from everyone. You don’t have your normal support network around you, and what you thought was your support network turns out not to be — that’d be pretty hard to take.

Kajan took the loss really hard. He was saying stuff like he didn’t know when he was going to eat next. That was powerful stuff. When he came back he was down, he wasn’t his normal self because he had a broken jaw.

That was weird, because he was actually quiet for once.

The semifinals continue next week, and we’re back to what should be some more awesome Canada vs. Australia matchups!
