Tarec Saffiedine, Hyun Gyu Lim pose for photo after UFC Fight Night 34 ‘Fight of the Night’

Keeping with a recent trend in the UFC, Tarec Saffiedine kicked Hyun Gyu Lim on repeat for 25 minutes, then went backstage to hug it out.

Saffiedine (15-3 MMA, 1-0 UFC) took a unanimous decision from Lim (12-4-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) in the main event of UFC Fight Night 34 on Saturday. He mostly dominated the fight – but in the fourth and fifth rounds, Lim’s heart shined through, and he even put together a big surge of offense as the fight came to a close.

UFC Fight Night 34 took place at Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Singapore. It was the first event to stream on the UFC’s new Fight Pass digital network.

Saffiedine, more than a 2-to-1 favorite in the fight, worked leg kicks throughout the first 15 minutes, and after three rounds, it looked like he might have Lim finished. But Lim’s corner implored him to go back out and keep trying in the fourth. Although Saffiedine, making his UFC debut after finishing as the final Strikeforce welterweight champion, continued to go after Lim’s left leg, Lim kept finding ways to come forward – often yelling out to the delight of the crowd.

After the fight, the two met backstage, and posed for a photo together. Saffiedine posted the picture to his Twitter account minutes after the fighters left the octagon.

“Warrior and great opponent!,” Saffiedine wrote on his Twitter account. “Thank you Lim for this (opportunity).”

UFC executive Mark Fischer, at the post-event news conference, lauded both fighters for their performance, which earned them an additional $50,000 each for “Fight of the Night.”

“We said it was going to be a barnburner, and that was one heck of a fight,” Fischer said. “Both guys showed amazing heart, and it was incredible how Lim hung in there and came back at the end. Unbelievable.”
