A bantamweight matchup has been added to the rapidly filling UFC on FOX Sports 1 2 fight card.
Takeya Mizugaki (17-7-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) and Erik Perez (13-4 MMA, 3-0 UFC) are set to meet at the event, which takes place Aug. 28 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today confirmed the matchup with sources close to the event following an initial report from MMAWeekly.com.
It’s unknown whether the two will meet on the event’s main card, which airs live on FOX Sports 1, or the preliminary card.
Perez gets back to the cage after an injury forced him to withdraw from UFC 159 in April. The snag temporarily paused his career, which has blossomed since his octagon debut at The Ultimate Fighter 15 Finale. The Mexican-born fighter has won three straight, with stoppage wins over John Albert, Ken Stone and Byron Bloodworth.
Mizugaki, a onetime WEC title challenger, could be Perez’s toughest test to date. The Japanese vet has won his past two outings via decision, besting Jeff Hougland and Bryan Caraway after an uneven 2-2 run inside the octagon. In the WEC, Mizugaki also went 2-2 but always faced top competition in the now-defunct promotion.
