Takanori Gomi Suffered Broken Hand in UFC on Fuel TV 8 Fight with Diego Sanchez

GomiHand.Takanori Gomi suffered a broken hand during his UFC on Fuel TV 8 split decision loss to Diego Sanchez on Saturday.

The former Pride lightweight champion posted a photo of the x-ray on his official blog on Monday showing a break to the second metacarpal bone of his right hand just above the metacarpophalangeal joint of his index finger.

According to the blog, Gomi suffered the broken hand during the opening round of the fight with Sanchez.  Despite the broken bone, Gomi fought through.

The judges scored the fight for Sanchez by split decision, but many felt Gomi did enough to capture the win, including UFC president Dana White.

Following the fight, White tweeted, “How the (expletive) did Diego win that fight!?”

MMAWeekly.com also scored the fight for Gomi during its live play-by-play.

Sanchez hadn’t fought in over a year heading into the bout with Gomi.  The fight marked his return to the lightweight division.

The loss snapped a two-fight win streak for the Japanese lightweight.
