Ultimate Fighting Championship officials Tuesday announced that Cain Velasquez and Fabricio Werdum will each head an eight-man team composed of bantamweights and featherweights.
The first Latin American version of the show has already begun shooting and will take place over the course of 12 weeks. The bantamweight and featherweight finalists will then compete for a six-figure UFC contract. More than 600 fighters applied to be a part of the show, and a variety of nations are represented in the final cast selection, including Argentina, Colombia, Bolivia, Ecuador, Panama, Nicaragua, Chile and Mexico.
Velasquez’s team will be made up entirely of Mexican fighters, while Werdum’s squad will showcase eight competitors from the other Latin American nations.
Audiences in the United States will be able to catch the Spanish-language series this August on UFC Fight Pass, while fans in the following countries can catch the weekly program on these respective free-to-air channels: Argentina, CN5; Bolivia, Red Uno; Mexico, Channel.5; Nicaragua, Channel 13; Panama, NexTV; Paraguay, Telefuturo; and Uruguay, Channel 10.
Following the show’s run, Velasquez will put his heavyweight title on the line against Werdum, defending his gold in the main event of UFC 180, which takes place Nov. 15 in Mexico City.
