‘TUF’ Alumni McKenzie, Johnson Added to UFC Fight Night 25


Two bouts featuring a trio of former “Ultimate Fighter” cast members have been added to the fight card for UFC Fight Night 25.

DaMarques Johnson, runner-up of “TUF 9,” will tangle with “TUF 13” contestant Clay Harvison at welterweight, while “TUF 12” strangler Cody McKenzie will go up against fellow submission specialist Vagner Rocha at lightweight.

UFC officials announced this week that both fights have been verbally agreed to.

Alternately dubbed “Battle on the Bayou,” UFC Fight Night 25 will take place Sept. 17 at New Orleans’ Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. The main event of the Spike TV card will see welterweight contenders Jake Shields and Jake Ellenberger square off in a three-round tilt.

Johnson (Pictured), 29, has gone 3-2 in the Octagon since losing his “TUF 9” bid to Englishman James Wilks, with none of those bouts going the distance. After beginning his year with a submission win over Michael Guymon, Johnson was forced to submit to elbow strikes from “TUF 7” Amir Sadollah in March.

A member of Brock Lesnar’s “TUF 13” squad, 30-year-old Harvison was eliminated from the show’s quarterfinals by Ramsey Nijem. The Marietta, Ga., native made his official UFC debut at the season’s finale in June, taking a split decision over fellow cast member Justin Edwards.

Known for his vicious modified guillotine choke, McKenzie, 23, ran off 10 consecutive first-round submissions via “McKenzie-tine” between 2008 and 2010. The Lyle Beerbohm training partner had his streak snapped in January, when he was rendered unconscious by an Yves Edwards rear-naked choke.

Rocha, 29, made his first trip to the Octagon on June 11, when he was soundly outpointed on the feet by Donald Cerrone at UFC 131. Prior to the loss, the Pablo Popovitch pupil had gone 6-1, including two wins in Bellator Fighting Championships.
