sam-alvey.jpgA middleweight matchup between “The Ultimate Fighter 16? veteran Sam Alvey (19-5) and hometown fighter Chase Degenhardt (8-3) has been added to the main card of May’s Maximum Fighting Championship event.

MFC officials recently announced the new booking, which airs live on AXS TV. “MFC 37: True Grit” takes place May 10 at Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Alvey fights for the second time under the MFC banner. He debuted for the promotion in February, when he suffered a decision loss to Elvis Mutapcic. The result snapped a two-fight win streak for “Smilin” Sam, who was fighting for the first time since his appearance on “TUF 16.”

He now meets Canadian prospect Degenhardt, who also fights for the second time for MFC. The 6-foot-4 middleweight debuted for the promotion this past October and scored a second-round TKO. It was Degenhardt’s second straight TKO win following a disappointing three-fight losing streak.

MFC officials are expected to announce one more bout for the evening’s main card. For now, that lineup includes:

  • Chris Barnett vs. Smealinho Rama – for vacant heavyweight title
  • Ryan Benoit vs. Anthony Birchak
  • Sam Alvey vs. Chase Degenhardt
  • Luke Harris vs. Jason Zentgraf
  • Mukai Maromo vs. Kurt Southern
