Dodson took home “Knockout of the Night” for his first-round finish of T.J. Dillashaw in the bantamweight final, while featherweight winner Diego Brandao was awarded “Submission of the Night” after stopping Dennis Bermudez in the bout also dubbed “Fight of the Night.”
Dodson used a marked speed advantage to find his range early against Dillashaw, catching the Team Alpha Male standout with a sharp hook and then pouncing with lightning-fast ground and pound. Before Dillashaw could recover, Herb Dean was pulling Dodson off of him, declaring the Jackson’s MMA representative the series' inaugural bantamweight winner.
Brandao had a much tougher time dispatching Dennis Bermudez, though he dropped the American early with an overhand right. Bermudez would not go away, however, and returned the favor by flattening the Brazilian with a straight right hand. Ultimately, “The Menace”could not find the finish, and Brandao managed to lock up a beautiful straight armbar from his back for the victory.
