UFC officials made the announcement about the bout on Monday.
Ferguson (11-2) will now move the lightweight division after winning TUF 13 as a 170-pound fighter.
Training with his former coach Brock Lesnar and his Team Deathclutch, Ferguson blasted through former housemate Ramsey Nijem at the finale to claim the Season 13 title.
Opposing Ferguson in his first post-TUF fight will be the always tough Aaron Riley (30-12-2), who returns to action for the first time since UFC 114 when he defeated Joe Brammer.
Riley was originally expected to return last September at UFC 119, but an injury kept him off the fight card. Now he’ll face the ‘Ultimate Fighter’ winner instead.
The bout between Ferguson and Riley takes place on the UFC 135 fight card set for Sept. 24 at the Pepsi Center in Denver.
