Support for Nick Diaz Continues to Grow as Signatures Build Towards White House

It’s clear at this point that the five-year suspension handed down to Nick Diaz for his positive test for weed following UFC 183 has made sort of a buzz.

Actually, it’s been the talk of the MMA town for the past week or so, and that’s putting it lightly because people are pissed. See what you did, Nevada Athletic Commission?! Way to go, guys.

Most notably, the reaction to Diaz’s suspension has grown to the point of everyone saying “WHAT THE F**K?!” and wondering if the commission that gave Diaz the ban is a little full of themselves and overstepped their power.

People like Gina Carano tweeted support of Diaz and, as we posted earlier this week, even comedian Katt Williams gave his two cents in support of the banned fighter.

And as of a few days ago, you can add Floyd Mayweather Jr. to Team WTF. Go to mark 2:34 of the video for his reaction to Diaz’s punishment. To the footage!

“Let that man smoke weed and enjoy his life,” Mayweather said, basically echoing most of Diaz’s supporters.

And while these voices sang loud in support of Diaz, the most notable is likely Ronda Rousey when she went off at a press conference and called out the NAC, saying they only test for marijuana because of political reasons.

Support like this makes it hard to believe that the NAC hasn’t taken notice. It’s pretty clear that everyone thinks they messed up, giving an overall sense that the NAC made a decision based on personal feelings for Diaz.

So bad was the foulup, a petition to the White House has collected, at the time of this article, more than 55,000 signatures in just over a week, asking the Obama Administration to lift the NAC’s ban on Diaz.

The petition requires 100,000 signatures by Oct. 14 in order to be reviewed by White House staff. Based on how many names have signed on in support of Diaz in a short amount of time, the buzz surrounding the fighter’s punishment and subsequent public reaction may cause the United States President to give Diaz a slide.

Imagine that. The result will finally give some sort of purpose to that whole “Thanks, Obama” meme.
