Strikeforce Targeting Wilcox-Fodor Lightweight Bout for Dec. 17

Caros Fodor will apparently return to the cage on Dec. 17, as the AMC Pankration product Wednesday announced that he will square off against Justin Wilcox at Strikeforce “Melendez vs. Masvidal.”

Fodor (Pictured, file photo) revealed the matchup during an interview with Mauro Ranallo on “The MMA Show” radio program.

Headlined by the titular lightweight title fight between Gilbert Melendez and Jorge Masvidal, the event goes down from the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, Calif. The evening’s Showtime-broadcast main card will also feature a women's featherweight title contest pitting Cristiane Santos against Hiroko Yamanaka.

Known as “The Future,” Fodor has been bested only once as a professional. The 27-year-old has won four straight since his February 2010 submission loss, finishing two of his opponents in that span. Thus far, Fodor has fought the entirety of his Strikeforce career in the Challengers series, most recently outpointing James Terry in the main event of Strikeforce Challengers 16 on June 24.

Wilcox has not lost since his Strikeforce debut in 2008. The American Kickboxing Academy standout has since competed six times for the promotion, with only a no-contest blemishing an otherwise perfect stretch. That no-contest came in Wilcox’s most recent outing, as the muscled lightweight was the recipient of an accidental eye poke courtesy of Gesias Cavalcante. As “The Silverback” could not continue, no decision was rendered after the June 18 bout was cut short.
