Stefan Struve vs. Mark Hunt Finalizes All Heavyweight Main Card for UFC 146

Stefan Struve
An all-heavyweight main card for UFC 146 is set with the addition of Stefan Struve versus former K-1 fighter Mark Hunt.

UFC president Dana White confirmed the new bout to Yahoo! Sports on Wednesday.

At only 24 years of age, Dutch fighter Stefan Struve has already faced a lifetime of competition inside the Octagon.

The six-foot-11-inch fighter has taken on some of the toughest heavyweights in his UFC career, and while he’s faced a few defeats, he’s currently riding a two-fight win streak with victories over Pat Barry and Dave Herman.

Now the giant Dutchman will face a legit K-1 level kickboxer with huge knockout power.

When Mark Hunt first came to the UFC, most scoffed at his chances for success. He entered the Octagon with a 5-6 record as part of the deal when Zuffa purchased Pride Fighting Championships. Most believed Hunt would be one and done after a loss to Sean McCorkle in his debut.

The UFC kept him around and it ended up being a wise move as Hunt has now picked up three wins in a row, including a TKO over Cheick Kongo last month at UFC 144.

Struve versus Hunt finalizes the main card for UFC 146, which will be an all-heavyweight attraction. At the top of the card sits reigning champion Junior Dos Santos, who puts his title on the line against No. 1 contender Alistair Overeem.

Former champions Cain Velasquez and Frank Mir square off, as well as Roy Nelson and former Strikeforce competitor Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva. The final bout for the main card features another Strikeforce transfer as Shane Del Rosario makes his UFC debut against veteran fighter Gabriel Gonzaga.

Is an all-heavyweight card a recipe for big hits and big finishes or a big risk due to smaller gas tanks? Watching UFC 146 is the only way to find out.
