Heavyweights Stefan Struve and Stipe Miocic will collide in the UFC on Fuel TV 5 main event at the Capital FM Arena. The matchup was first reported by Gareth Davies of The Daily Telegraph, and Struve later confirmed the pairing on his Twitter account.
“Can’t wait to be fighting in front of family, friends, fans and so on!” Struve tweeted on Friday. “Love fighting in the UK -- it feels like home and I’m super pumped!”
Both Struve and Miocic claimed victories at UFC 146, which featured the promotion’s first ever all-heavyweight main card. Struve submitted Lavar Johnson with a first-round armbar, while Miocic earned a second-round TKO triumph against Shane del Rosario.
It was the third straight win for Struve, who is 8-3 since joining MMA’s largest organization in 2009. The 24-year-old Dutchman defeated Pat Barry and Dave Herman in his two bouts prior to facing Johnson on May 26. “Skyscraper’s” 4.5 submissions attempted per 15 minutes ranks No. 2 all-time in the UFC, and he has finished 16 of his 24 career victims by way of tapout.
A former collegiate wrestler at Cleveland State University, Miocic is unbeaten in nine professional appearances, with finishes in all but one of those bouts. In addition to his win over del Rosario, Miocic owns victories against Joey Beltran and Philip De Fries during his Octagon tenure.
The still-developing UFC on Fuel TV 5 card also includes a bantamweight scrap between Brad Pickett and Yves Jabouin and a featherweight duel between fellow “Ultimate Fighter” alums Andy Ogle and Akira Corassani.
