Spratt Replaces Injured Whitson, Meets Davis at MFC 30

Canadian promotion Maximum Fighting Championship on Thursday announced that Davis will rematch fellow UFC veteran Pete Spratt (Pictured; file photo) at MFC 30 on June 10. Spratt steps in for injured lightweight Richie Whitson to lock horns with “The Irish Hand Grenade” at the event.

MFC 30, which emanates from the Mayfield Inn Trade and Conference Centre in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, will be headlined by a lightweight title confrontation between Drew Fickett and Hermes Franca. The show will air live on HDNet at 10 p.m. ET.

“There will be no shortage of fireworks in this fight,” MFC head Mark Pavelich said in a statement. “I can’t see anything but explosive excitement happening. This should be an awesome display -- one of the best all-out wars the MFC has ever put together.”

Davis and Spratt’s first bout took place at UFC 69 in 2007. Davis cinched an Achilles lock to force the tap midway through the second frame. Since that time, Davis has posted a record of 7-5. The 37-year-old was bounced from the UFC in January after losing four of last six fights inside the Octagon. After departing from the promotion, Davis earned a hard-fought victory in his MFC debut, as the heavy-handed American outpointed hometown favorite Curtis Demarce at MFC 29 last month.

Spratt, 40, was released by the UFC in 2007 following a submission defeat to Tamdan McCroy. Spratt made his MFC debut in 2008, falling by submission to Ryan Ford. However, Spratt rebounded from that loss to knock out Nathan Gunn at MFC 22 the following year. The Texas native holds a 3-2 record in the MFC cage, with both of his defeats coming at the hands of Ford. Most recently, Spratt submitted Demi Deeds at MFC 29 with a second-round armbar.
