ediane-gomes.jpgAn undisclosed injury has forced Ediane Gomes (10-2) off Invicta FC 5, leaving Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos (10-1) without an opponent, according to multiple sources close to the fighters.

The search for a replacement is currently underway.

Invicta FC 5 takes place April 5 at Ameristar Casino Hotel in Kansas City, Mo. The women’s featherweight matchup was scheduled for the event’s main card, which airs via online pay-per-view.

Gomes most recently competed at the all-women MMA promotion’s previous event, which took place in January. She earned a unanimous decision over Strikeforce vet Hiroko Yamanaka, who was the last woman to fight Santos.

Santos, who stopped Yamanaka in the first round of their Dec. 2011 fight, later tested positive for stanozolol metabolites and was suspended and fined. In an appeal, she blamed a tainted supplement for the results and denied using performance-enhancers. Her punishment was upheld.

Following the expiration of her suspension, “Cyborg” negotiated with multiple promoters, including UFC parent Zuffa, which held the rights to her services following the shuttering of Strikeforce. In a surprise move, Santos asked to be released from her contract and turned down a multi-fight contract from Zuffa, which would have included bouts for Invicta, deciding instead to sign an exclusive multi-fight deal with the promotion.

To date, Santos, who held the Strikeforce women’s featherweight belt before being stripped of the belt for her infraction, has been defeated just once in 11 professional fights.
