Six fights added to UFC Fight Night 89, including Bosse vs. O'Connell, Alvey vs. Theodorou

The card for UFC Fight Night 89 is developing quickly.

The UFC today announced six new fights for the event, which takes place June 18 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It’s expected to air on FOX Sports 1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass.

The new bookings include Steve Bosse (11-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) vs. Sean O'Connell (17-7 MMA, 2-3 UFC) at light heavyweight, Sam Alvey (26-7 MMA, 3-2 UFC) vs. Elias Theodorou (11-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) at middleweight, Misha Cirkunov (11-2 MMA, 2-0 UFC) vs. Ion Cutelaba (11-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) at light heavyweight, Olivier Aubin-Mercier (7-2 MMA, 3-2 UFC) vs. Thibault Gouti (11-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) at lightweight, Krzysztof Jotko (17-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) vs. Tamdan McCrory (14-3 MMA, 4-3 UFC) at middleweight and Colby Covington (8-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) vs. Alex Garcia (13-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC) at welterweight.

Bosse is coming off a shocking 52-second knockout of James Te-Huna at UFC Fight Night 85. The victory helped him rebound from a 29-second head kick knockout loss to Thiago Santos in his octagon debut. O’Connell had his two-fight winning streak snapped in his previous outing, a 30-second TKO loss to Ilir Latifi at UFC Fight Night 81.

Alvey also had a winning streak snapped in his most recent outing. His three-fight winning streak was snapped when Derek Brunson scored a first-round TKO at UFC Fight Night 73. In keeping with the theme, Theodorou suffered his first career loss in his previous trip to the octagon, a unanimous decision loss to Santos.

Cirkunov has tasted success in both of his UFC bouts, including a knockout of Daniel Jolly at UFC Fight Night 74 and a neck crank submission of Alex Nicholson at UFC Fight Night 82. Cutelaba will make his UFC debut at the event riding a seven-fight winning streak including stoppages in all his professional wins.

With the additions, the latest UFC Fight Night 89 card now includes:

  • Rory MacDonald vs. Stephen Thompson
  • Donald Cerrone vs. Patrick Cote
  • Steve Bosse vs. Sean O’Connell
  • Sam Alvey vs. Elias Theodorou
  • Jason Saggo vs. Leandro Silva
  • Misha Cirkunov vs. Ion Cutelaba
