Shogun Rua vs. James Te Huna Serves as UFC Fight Night 33 Co-Main Event

Shogun Rua at UFC 139UFC officials earlier this week announced that Mark Hunt vs. Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva would headline UFC Fight Night 33 on Dec. 7 in Brisbane, Australia (Dec. 6 in the U.S.). On Wednesday, they announced the co-main event.

Mauricio “Shogun” Rua will square off with James Te Huna in the night’s top supporting bout at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre.

Shogun (21-8) is coming off of back-to-back losses for the first time in his storied career. He lost a decision to current title challenger Alexander Gustafsson at UFC on Fox 5 in December then followed that with a submission loss to Chael Sonnen at last month’s UFC Fight Night 26.

The trip to Australia will be Shogun’s first time fighting there.

Born in New Zealand and now living in Australia, Te Huna (16-6) will have the home field advantage.

He’s also returning to the Octagon after disappointment in his last fight, though. Te Huna had a four-fight winning streak disrupted by the next light heavyweight contender, Glover Teixeira, at UFC 160 in May.

Te Huna has fought on three of the four UFC fight cards that have taken place in Australia, and fought the first 17 bouts of his professional career there.
