Shayna Baszler-Sara McMann, Alexis Davis-Hitomi Akano Top All-Female Invicta FC 2 Bill

Olympic freestyle wrestling silver medalist Sara McMann will headline Invicta Fighting Championships’ sophomore all-female event on June 28, when she’ll meet submission specialist Shayna Baszler in a bantamweight showdown.

Promotion officials ratified the main event on Tuesday and also revealed the remainder of the 13-fight bill, which will be contested at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan.

In the evening’s co-headliner, a pair of Strikeforce veterans will collide, as ex-Smackgirl champion Hitomi Akano meets Canadian combatant Alexis Davis. On the undercard, former U.S. Marine and Strikeforce title challenger Liz Carmouche takes on onetime EliteXC talent Kaitlin Young, and hard-hitting Brazilian Amanda Nunes squares off with once-beaten Russian prospect Milana Dudieva.

Additionally, ex-Bodog Fight competitor Kelly Kobold will see action against Vanessa Porto, and Carlsa Esparza will go against Sarah Schneider.

McMann won her silver medal at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and made her pro MMA debut just over one year ago. The 31-year-old has not yet tasted defeat as a mixed martial artist, collecting five wins to her credit, three of which have come by either knockout or submission. Most recently, McMann earned a victory over Akano in January, taking a unanimous decision from the Japanese talent at ProElite 3.

Known as “The Queen of Spades,” Baszler holds four times McMann’s professional experience and rides a four-fighting winning streak into her inaugural Invicta FC appearance. Baszler owns notable victories over Julie Kedzie, Roxanne Modafferi and Jan Finney, among others, but has not seen action since submitting Elaina Maxwell with a kneebar in November 2010.
