Sergio Pettis vs. Matt Hobar set for December's UFC 181 card in Las Vegas

For the first time, Sergio Pettis will get a chance to fight on the same card as his lightweight champion big brother in December.

Pettis (11-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) is set to meet Matt Hobar (9-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) in a bantamweight bout at UFC 181. UFC officials announced the new bout following an initial report from the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Featuring a welterweight title fight rematch between champ Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler, as well as a lightweight title fight between champ Anthony Pettis and Gilbert Melendez, UFC 181 takes place at Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay Events Center. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Pettis got back in the win column in June at UFC Fight Night 42 with a unanimous decision win over Yaotzin Meza. Anthony Pettis’ younger brother had won his highly anticipated UFC debut with a decision win over Will Campuzano at UFC 167 this past November, but then stumbled in Chicago at UFC on FOX 10 when he was submitted by Alex Caceres late in the third round. Despite the setback, the first of his professional career, he was given “Fight of the Night” honors.

Hobar in August took a unanimous decision from Aaron Phillips at UFC Fight Night 49 in Tulsa. That got him back on track after a TKO loss to Pedro Munhoz in his promotional debut in May in Brazil. Prior to that, the Legacy FC veteran had a three-fight winning streak.

With the addition to the card, UFC 181 now includes:

• Holly Holm vs. Raquel Pennington

• Todd Duffee vs. Anthony Hamilton
• Matt Hobar vs. Sergio Pettis
