Scott Askham signs with UFC, meets Magnus Cedenblad at UFC Fight Night 53 in Sweden

An unbeaten middleweight prospect has signed with the UFC and will make his promotional debut in Sweden in October.

Scott Askham (12-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC), from England, will take on Sweden’s own Magnus Cedenblad (12-4 MMA, 2-1 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 53. UFC officials announced the new fight booking Friday morning.

UFC Fight Night 53 takes place Oct. 4 at Ericsson Globe in Stockholm. The event is expected to stream on UFC Fight Pass in the United States.

Askham is about two months removed from his most recent victory, a third-round knockout of highly touted Swede Max Nunes in the main event of a BAMMA Fight Night card. In 2013, he had a trio of victories, including a win over U.K. standout Jack Marshman. All told, he has nine stoppages in his 12 career wins, including seven knockouts.

Cedenblad dropped his UFC debut in April 2012 when he was submitted by Francis Carmont at UFC on FUEL TV 2 in Stockholm. But after more than 16 months away, he returned and tapped out Jared Hamman in less than a minute with a guillotine choke at UFC 164.

Another lengthy injury layoff awaited him after that, but he returned in May at UFC Fight Night 41 in Berlin to submit Krzysztof Jotko with a guillotine – winning a “Performance of the Night” bonus in the process. Now he’ll look for three straight against an undefeated newcomer.

With the addition, the latest UFC Fight Night 53 card now includes:

  • Nico Musoke vs. Amir Sadollah
  • Niklas Backstrom vs. Mike Wilkinson
  • Ernest Chavez vs. Zubaira Tukhugov
  • Dennis Siver vs. Robert Whiteford
  • Jan Blachowicz vs. Ilir Latifi
  • Marcin Bandel vs. Mairbek Taisumov
  • Scott Askham vs. Magnus Cedenblad
