Schaub, Management ‘Lobbying Hard’ for Nogueira at UFC ‘Rio’

has his way, he’ll be fighting on hostile ground against
one of Brazil’s biggest MMA icons this summer.
Not long after his March 19 knockout of Mirko “Cro
Cop” Filipovic, Schaub began calling the name of another former
Pride Fighting Championships star: Antonio
Rodrigo Nogueira. With Nogueira’s recent announcement that he
will compete at UFC 134 “Rio”
in Rio de Janeiro on Aug. 27, it seems Schaub’s wish could be
granted in short order.
However, the 28-year-old prospect’s management recently
told ESPN.com that nothing is set in stone.
“We are lobbying daily for the fight,” said Schaub’s manager, Lex
McMahon. “As of now, we have not been offered the fight. We are
optimistic that if [Nogueira] is healthy, Brendan has a good shot
to be his opponent in Brazil.”
Filipovic has also expressed interest in a rematch with Nogueira in
Rio, but McMahon said it “seems a stretch” that “Cro Cop” would get
the assignment over the man who just beat him.
