Fireworks could be in store when light heavyweights Ryan Jimmo (19-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC) and Ovince St. Preux (15-5 MMA, 3-0 UFC) meet at UFC 174.
Canadian newspaper The Province today announced the fight, which completes the summer pay-per-view card on June 14 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver. Preliminary-card matchups air on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.
UFC officials subsequently confirmed the matchup via Twitter.
It’s a good opportunity for St. Preux to get the kind of fights that might put him in the 205-pound division’s top-15. The Strikeforce vet has won his past three in the octagon, including a recent submission of Nikita Krylov via Von Flue choke which won him “Performance of the Night” honors at UFC 171.
Jimmo, meanwhile, is looking to build momentum and consistency after impressive early efforts. The Canadian made his debut with a seven-second KO of Anthony Perosh at UFC 149, but hopscotched between wins and losses in subsequent efforts. Most recently, he returned to his concussive ways, stopping Sean O’Connell in the first round.
UFC 174 is headlined by a flyweight title bout between current kingpin Demetrious Johnson and challenger Ali Bagautinov.
