Rustam Khabilov vs. Rafael dos Anjos Bout Scrapped from UFC 170 Fight Card

Rafael dos Anjos

A key lightweight bout between Rustam Khabilov and Rafael dos Anjos has been cancelled from the UFC 170: Rousey vs. McMann fight card due to injury.

UFC officials announced the cancellation on Tuesday, but did not specify who suffered the injury nor did they reveal whether or not a new bout would be sought.

Dos Anjos (20-6) is on a hot streak of late in his UFC career, winning five in a row. In his most recent outing, dos Anjos took out top lightweight Donald Cerrone with a unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 27.

Khabilov (17-1) is undefeated since coming to the UFC one year ago. The Russian fighter’s last performance had him going the distance with former Strikeforce contender Jorge Masvidal, earning a unanimous-decision win for his efforts at UFC Fight for the Troops 3.

The Khabilov vs. dos Anjos fight had been slated as the opening bout on the pay-per-view portion of the show. Officials did not announce which bout would take its place.

With the cancellation, the fight card currently stands at 10 bouts.

UFC 170 takes place on Feb. 22 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. Ronda Rousey vs. Sara McMann, two former Olympians, headlines the card in a battle for Rousey’s UFC women’s bantamweight championship.
