Roy Nelson and Dana White’s Rocky Relationship Takes Center Stage for TUF 16

It’s easy to tell that Ultimate Fighter 16 coach Roy Nelson and UFC President Dana White have a ‘love-hate’ relationship.

White has never been short on words of wisdom or criticism when it comes to dealing with Nelson over the years, but in the past six weeks while filming the newest installment of the reality show, they came head-to-head more than normal.

In the last few weeks, White has stated on several occasions that he had more than a couple of disagreements with Nelson while filming was happening. Nelson doesn’t refute White’s claims, but says that deep down there are certain things that he and the UFC President can always agree on.

“The thing about Dana, Dana is the president of the UFC, we definitely have differences of opinion on some things. But at the end of the day the one thing that we both agree on is we like to put on exciting fights,” Nelson told MMAWeekly Radio ahead of the TUF 16 debut on Friday.

“I actually do the fight, he puts it on. I think that’s the one thing that we both agree on that we do that.”

Nelson and White may always butt heads, but there will be a mutual respect that mends fences when times get rough.

Now that the Ultimate Fighter season 16 is over, Nelson will get ready to face fellow coach Shane Carwin in December, and it seems every time the former Ultimate Fighter winner competes, Dana White walks away a happy man.

“Sometimes we just have difference of opinions, and difference of opinion can make people angry or mad, get their panties in a bunch. We just have that husband and wife type relationship, you’re on, you’re off, but at the same time we love each other,” said Nelson.

“We’re in a marriage and we have to get along for the kids but at the same time he has to sleep on the couch.”
