Roy Jones, Jr. Says UFC Won't Allow Anderson Silva to Fulfill His Boxing Dream | MMAWeekly.com

Former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva has long wanted to box Roy Jones Jr. The four-time world boxing champion has long wanted to make it happen as well.

But with Silva recently signing a new 15-fight UFC contract at 39 years of age, it doesn’t seem likely that the fight will ever happen.

Jones thinks it is unfair, but he believes that UFC officials aren’t going to ever allow it to take place.

Roy Jones vs Anderson Silva“(Anderson Silva) is a person, who like myself, when we succeed at something we want to try something else if we can. We want to see how far we can go. We want to test the skies to see if the sky is the limit,” Jones, Jr. recently told The MMA Fight Corner.

“But on his downside, the UFC won’t allow him to fulfill his dream. It’s such a shame because it’s a night that I’m sure people from both worlds would really admire.”

Silva currently is working his way back into the Octagon. He’s scheduled to fight Nick Diaz in a middleweight, non-title fight on Jan. 31 in the UFC 183 main event in Las Vegas.

He suffered a setback on Monday when he had to rush to the hospital due to some lingering back issues that cause him to lose feeling in his legs. Silva has since been sent home and the incident isn’t expected to delay his return.

But with a 15-fight UFC contract, any boxing match with Jones would certainly have to get the UFC’s stamp of approval.

It’s something the UFC president Dana White has often admitted drives him crazy about Silva, and Jones believes that the promotion won’t ever allow it to happen.

“I feel really solid that (the UFC) won’t allow him to do (the boxing match),” Jones continued. “But as a fighter, I think (Silva) is a phenomenal fighter and I think he’s probably going to be one of the best UFC fighters to ever touch the planet.”
