Rose Namajunas calls for UFC on FOX 22 winner Michelle Waterson for next fight

UFC strawweight Rose Namajunas is looking to make a comeback, and she thinks a fight with the recently victorious Michelle Waterson is the right matchup.

Namajunas (5-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC) recently pushed for the matchup on Instagram:

“First off I want to congratulate @karatehottiemma on a SPECTACULAR performance! You showed tremendous growth and hunger as a fighter/mother/wife/cool person since knowing you so hats off to you! Secondly I want to acknowledge the messages I’ve been getting from my fans that this is the next matchup y’all want to see! Me too! Make it happen @danawhite @ufc.”

Waterson (14-4 MMA, 2-0 UFC), of course, is riding high after a first-round submission win over popular Paige VanZant at this past Saturday’s UFC on FOX 22. It was the second straight win for the former Invicta FC atomweight champ, who moved up to 115 pounds to fight in the UFC and suffered several injury setbacks that delayed her return after a UFC-debut win over Angela Mangana at The Ultimate Fighter 21 Finale.

After the event, Waterson told MMAjunkie she’s in good health and would accept whatever bout the UFC requested for her next outing. She declined to call out any specific names.

If there were any carrot Namajunas could offer at this moment, it would be a higher ranking. The finalist on “The Ultimate Fighter 20” is currently ranked No. 7 in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA women’s strawweight rankings, where Waterson, along with VanZant, is an honorable mention.

Namajunas would certainly like a little of Waterson’s momentum. Namajunas had won three straight since her turn on the reality show only to fall short in a summer title eliminator against Karolina Kowalkiewicz.

After losing the fight via split decision, Namajunas recently traveled to the Indonesian island of Kanawa to help build an “earthship” structure to provide sewage treatment and energy (via Instagram):

Namajunas was not immediately reachable for comment on her recent post.
