Robert Whittaker vs. Brian Melancon added to UFC Fight Night 33 in Australia


robert-whittaker-2.jpg“The Ultimate Fighter: Team Australia vs. Team U.K.” winner Robert Whittaker (11-3 MMA, 2-1 UFC) will soon attempt to get back on the winning track on home turf.

UFC officials on Wednesday announced that Whittaker is scheduled to meet Brian Melancon (7-3 MMA, 1-1 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 33, which takes place Dec. 6 at Brisbane Entertainment Centre in Brisbane, Australia. The event’s broadcast plans haven’t been announced.

Following an impressive KO of Seth Baczynski in his octagon debut at UFC 162, Melancon is on the road to redemption after a submission loss to “The Ultimate Fighter 17? winner Kelvin Gastelum at UFC Fight Night 27. The hard-slugging fighter trains at Paradigm Training Center in Houston.

After winning “TUF,” Whittaker delivered an impressive post-show performance when he stopped “TUF 16? winner Colton Smith. But he was outpointed by another “TUF” winner, season 11 winner Court McGee, in his most recent showing in the bout prior to Melancon’s at UFC Fight Night 27.

In addition to having fought side-by-side on the August card, Whittaker and Melancon have three losses each on their professional records.
