Following a seven-month hiatus, venerable Colorado fight promotion Ring of Fire returns with Backlash, a mixed martial arts fight card featuring many of Colorado’s top talents. The event also marks the promotion’s return to the 1stBank Center in Broomfield, Colo., for the first time in nearly a year.
The Ring of Fire 40 main event features Young Guns welterweight champion Brandon “Rukus” Thatch against Chris Holland. Just lucky to be fighting, Thatch returned last year at
Ring of Fire 39 – after a year-and-a-half out of the sport due to a severe neck injury – to win the title. Holland is a 35-year-old late starter in the sport, looking to make the most of his narrow window of opportunity.
The co-main event features Young Guns women’s lightweight (125-pound) champion Michelle Blalock in her first professional fight, facing a stern test in Casey Noland.
The supporting cast is highlighted by a feature fight between Grudge Training Center middleweight standout Chaun
Sims, who faces Vitor Belfort protégé Cezar Mutante. This fight could serve as a launching pad to the big leagues for the victor.
The Backlash fighters weighed in before an overflowing room on Friday night at Dave & Busters in Broomfield, Colo. Ring of Fire 40 takes place Saturday night at the 1stBank Center in Broomfield, just outside of Denver.
