A pair of recently injured middleweights have agreed to meet in June.
Caio Magalhaes (5-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) and Karlos Vemola (9-3 MMA, 2-3 UFC) will square off at UFC on FUEL TV 10, according to a report from Brazilian outlet Tatame.
UFC on FUEL TV 10 takes place June 8 at Ginasio Paulo Sarasate in Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil. The event’s main card airs on FUEL TV following prelims on Facebook. The card is expected to feature the finals of “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 2,” as well as the fight between coaches Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Fabricio Werdum.
Magalhaes made his UFC debut at UFC on FX 3 this past June, dropping a unanimous decision to Buddy Roberts. The Brazilian was expected to return in January at UFC on FX 7 in Brazil. He was an injury replacement for Thiago Perpetuo against Michael Kuiper. But less than a month before the fight, he had to drop off with an injury.
Magalhaes, a 25-year-old Nova Uniao student who fights out of Fortaleza, started his career 5-0 with three stoppages before the setback to Roberts.
Vemola returns for the first time since a July loss to Francis Carmont at UFC on FUEL TV 4. The rear-naked choke submission loss was the first time he had been stopped. He was expected to meet Chris Leben at UFC 155 in December, but was forced out with an injury.
Like Magalhaes, the former heavyweight and light heavyweight started his career unbeaten before getting the call from the UFC. But once there, it’s been an up-and-down run for the Czech fighter, who fights out of London. At 2-3 in the promotion, he has yet to put together a win streak and will need a win over Magalhaes to avoid the first losing skid of his career.
