Report: Bantamweights Urijah Faber, Ivan Menjivar to Rematch at February’s UFC 157

Urijah Faber and Ivan Menjivar are expected to cross paths again in a bantamweight showdown at UFC 157.

The Feb. 23 event takes place at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., and the evening’s main card airs live on pay-per-view following the FX-broadcast prelims. MMAWeekly.com first reported the Faber-Menjivar pairing on Monday.

The bantamweights previously met almost seven years ago under the defunct TKO banner, with “The California Kid” winning by disqualification after Menjivar landed an illegal kick to his downed foe.

After winning 21 of his first 22 fights, Faber, 33, has posted a 5-5 record in his last 10 outings dating back to November 2008. A former World Extreme Cagefighting featherweight king, Faber has competed at 135 pounds in his last five fights, coming up short in his bid to capture the undisputed title from Dominick Cruz last year before falling to Renan Pegado in an attempt to win the interim belt this past July at UFC 149.

Menjivar has won four of his last five bouts. Nearly a 12-year pro, the 30-year-old kicked off 2012 with a come-from-behind submission win over “Ultimate Fighter” Season 14 alumnus John Albert but was later outlasted by Mike Easton at UFC 148 in July. Most recently, “The Pride of El Salvador” offered UFC debutant Azamat Gashimov a rude Octagon welcome, submitting the Russian with a belly-down armbar last month at UFC 154.
