Reminder: 'Countdown to UFC 179: Aldo vs. Mendes 2' debuts tonight on FOX Sports 1

As a reminder, the UFC’s traditional pre-event show returns tonight with the debut of “Countdown to UFC 179: Aldo vs. Mendes 2? on FOX Sports 1.

The one-hour special previews the card’s headlining bout between UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo (24-1 MMA, 6-0 UFC) and Chad Mendes (16-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC), who headline UFC 179 in a five-round title fight rematch. The fighters are ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA featherweight rankings.

“Countdown” airs tonight at 4 p.m. ET, and replays air throughout the week.

UFC 179 takes place Oct. 25 at Rio de Janeiro’s Maracanazinho Gymnasium. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

“Countdown” will focus on the headliner, as well as the co-main event between No. 6 light heavyweight Glover Teixeira (22-3 MMA, 5-1 UFC) takes on No. 7 Phil Davis (12-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC).
