Reebok terminates sponsorship of ex-UFC champ Jon Jones

The bad news keeps coming for former UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

A day after the UFC stripped “Bones” of his title and issued him an indefinite suspension, Reebok has terminated its sponsorship with MMA’s pound-for-pound kingpin.

News of the terminated contract comes less than a year after Nike severed ties with the 27-year-old fighter. ESPN sports business reporter Darren Rovell has the news (via Twitter):

Jones (21-1 MMA, 15-1 UFC) was stripped of the title on Tuesday and pulled from next month’s UFC 187 pay-per-view headliner, and he now faces an an indefinite suspension following his involvement in a Sunday hit-and-run accident. Jones reportedly fled the scene of the accident before returning to grab some cash. Rental-car paperwork in the wrecked SUV linked it to Jones, and a marijuana pipe and marijuana were found inside.

An arrest warrant was ultimately issued, and Jones turned himself into authorities and was released on bail on Monday. He’s accused of leaving the scene of an accident involving death or personal injuries, a felony charge with a penalty of up to three years in prison.

In recent months, Reebok has signed enhanced sponsorship deals with a handful of UFC fighters in addition to its overall fighter-sponsorship program that kicks into gear in July. Jones was one of the apparel giant’s highest-profile MMA fighters and is featured in a nationwide ad for its 2015 ZPump Pump shoes (watch it above).
