Ramsey Nijem: Myles Jury Doesn’t Like In-Your-Face Style

Myles Jury has an undefeated record, but Ramsey Nijem likes how he matches up with him ahead of their UFC on Fox 7 lightweight bout.

“He’s a tough guy,” Nijem told the Sherdog Radio Network’s “Beatdown” show, “but he definitely doesn’t like my style of a fight -- right in your face, 15 minutes of just pushing the pace and scrambling, up against the fence, one of those fights.”

Nijem has won three straight in the UFC since Tony Ferguson knocked him out at “The Ultimate Fighter 13” Finale. Jury was also on Season 13 of the reality show briefly but withdrew due to an injury before returning for Season 15. He was eliminated by Al Iaquinta on a split decision but bounced back with a submission win over Chris Saunders at “The Ultimate Fighter 15” Finale. Officially, he still hasn’t lost a pro bout.

“Obviously he’s undefeated for a reason,” Nijem said. “He’s a tough kid, lots of heart and a very talented fighter. But I feel like on the show he didn’t perform quite as well, but that’s kind of a hard thing to say because the way ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ works. It either favors some people or gets in their head. It’s hard to judge someone off their performance on ‘The Ultimate Fighter.’”

Outside of the show, Jury has made a habit of finishing opponents in the first round. In what may be his best win, though, he earned a unanimous decision over Michael Johnson in December at UFC 155.

“Michael Johnson was on a tear, and he put it to a stop,” Nijem said. “… We’re both kind of in the same spot in our career right now. We’re both trying to make a name for ourselves in the lightweight division. We’re like the same age. I think we’re both 24 and undefeated in the lightweight division in the UFC. I feel like we’re both kind of coming up, and this is going to be a big fight for both of us.”

Nijem plans on winning it, too.

“He wants to stay on the outside and move real well,” Nijem said. “He’s real athletic. He likes to get in and out. I think stylistically, this is a really good fight for me. I’ll just push the pace and do what I do best: make the fight nasty and dirty.”
