Pulver-Vazquez Set for March 6 WEC

Jens Pulver will face Javier Vazquez at WEC 47 on Mar. 6 at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, Sherdog.com has learned through multiple sources.

A former UFC lightweight champion, Pulver was a long-time fixture in the 155-pound rankings before falling on tough times and making a drop to the featherweight division. After winning his first bout at 145 pounds Pulver has lost four straight with stoppages in the last three appearances. He will look to resurrect his career against another tough opponent in Vazquez.

Vazquez, a former King of the Cage champion, entered the WEC 145-pound division with title aspirations but, after two debatable split-decision losses, now finds himself fighting for a spot on the promotion’s roster. The jiu-jitsu black belt and former collegiate wrestler will match his grappling skills with the heavy hands of Pulver in a classic striker vs. grappler showdown.

WEC 47 will also feature a bantamweight title matchup between Brian Bowles and Dominick Cruz, as well as a 135-pound contender’s bout between former champ Miguel Torres and Joseph Benavidez.
