Pete Spratt-Danny Salinas, Leonard Garcia-Nick Gonzalez top Legacy FC 23 card

In the main event of Legacy FC 23, Pete Spratt (25-22) meets Danny Salinas (11-5) in a welterweight bout, and in the co-feature, featherweight Leonard Garcia (15-11-1) takes on Nick Gonzalez (18-11). Promotion officials recently announced the fight card.

Legacy FC 23 takes place Sept. 13 at Cowboys Dancehall in San Antonio. The main card will air on AXS TV.

Legacy most recently visited San Antonio for Legacy FC 17 in February. That show also was headlined by Spratt, who dropped a unanimous decision to Bellator vet Dan Hornbuckle.

Spratt will try to rebound from that loss, which snapped a two-fight win streak for him. The San Antonio-based fighter also will try to get back to even for Legacy, where he is 1-2. He debuted at UFC 37.5 in 2002 with a submission win over Zach Light before being submitted by Carlos Newton.

Spratt’s resume includes a pair of stints with the UFC and a 3-3 overall record with that promotion, plus fights for Strikeforce and a who’s-who of regional promotions. He’s fought the likes of Georges St-Pierre, Chris Lytle, Josh Koscheck, Matt Brown, Yves Edwards and Robbie Lawler over more than 14 years in the sport.

Salinas will be making his Legacy debut coming off a seven-second knockout win over Jorge Cortez for South Texas Fighting Championships in May. That win snapped a two-fight losing skid for the former lightweight.

Onetime WEC featherweight title challenger Garcia will look for a new start after 17 straight fights under the Zuffa banner for both the UFC and WEC. He’s in the midst of a five-fight losing skid that ultimately led to his UFC release.

Garcia was a consistent fan favorite for his style, which had him swinging for the fences, often at the expense of his own chin. In his 17 Zuffa fights, he won six “Fight of the Night” bonuses and a “Knockout of the Night.” But that particular bonus, a first-round KO of former UFC lightweight champ Jens Pulver at WEC 36 that got him into a title fight with Mike Brown, was his last win that didn’t come by split decision. Since then, he is 2-8-1 with controversial split-decision wins over Chan Sung Jung and Nam Phan.

Gonzalez is a Bellator, Strikeforce and EliteXC vet – though his fights for those promotions all resulted in losses, all by stoppage. The Austin-based fighter is 1-1 under the Legacy banner with a November win over Ray Blodget in his promotional debut, but a decision loss to Kevin Aguilar in February at Legacy FC 17.
