Askren stepped on the scale at 169.5 pounds, while Abbasov checked in slightly heavier at an even 170. One FC 16 takes place Friday at Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore, and streams live via online pay-per-view at onefc.livesport.tv.
Eddie Ng and Vincent Latoel were also cleared for their co-headlining lightweight affair, tipping the scales at 154 and 153 pounds, respectively. One FC 16 will additionally see Honorio Banario (145) lock horns with Jadamba Narantungalag (145), while Caros Fodor (155) collides with Willy Ni (154).
Askren, 29, has been perfect through 12 pro outings thus far, winning Bellator’s welterweight title and defending the belt successfully four times before receiving his promotional release as the reigning 170-pound king. “Funky” last competed in July, when he dismantled Andrey Koreshkov via fourth-round stoppage at Bellator 97.
Abbasov, 28, has not lost since 2011 and rides a nine-fight winning streak into his One FC debut. The Azerbaijani fighter most recently competed for the Grand European Fighting Championship in December, posting two victories in a single night at GEFC ‘Lights of Baku.’
