UFC CanadaUFC officials on Friday added another bout to their Calgary debut. UFC 149, which is slated for July 21 at the ScotiaBank Saddledome, will host Mitch Clarke vs. Anton Kuivanen.

The bout is a rather important fight for both, as each fighter is coming off of a loss in his Octagon debut.

Clarke (9-1) has yet to fight outside of his home country, and that won’t happen just yet, either. Born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Clarke, however, will be looking to bounce back from the first loss of his career, and when a fighter is new to the UFC, losses aren’t allowed to pile up very high.

Clarke dropped his debut to John Cholish at UFC 140 in Toronto in December, suffering a second-round TKO stoppage.

Much like Clarke, Kuivanen (16-5) failed in his UFC debut, losing to Justin Salas via unanimous decision at the first UFC on Fuel TV card in February. And like Clarke, he could really use a win in his sophomore effort.

Fighting out of Finland, Kuivanen had been on a nine-fight winning streak prior to losing to Salas. He’ll look to start a new streak when he face Clarke in July.

No headlining bout has been announced yet for the UFC 149 fight card, although UFC president Dana White, in announcing the event, said he intends for UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo to defend his belt in Calgary.
